Facelift

Since I've had the past 3 days off because of the snow I've had plenty of time to take in my environment. I was getting sick of the way my living room was arranged, that nothing was hung on the walls, and that overall it just looked "blah." So I cleaned and rearranged and finished it off with some nic-nacs here and there. I like how the little things just give it all a nice pop. Here are some of those nic-nacs I've put around my little home.

Along one wall I've strung green embroidery floss along the wall and secured it with large metal tacks. Then I placed decorative cards and pictures that I've received from friends and family along the string. I'm thinking I might need a second string underneath it. (Friends and family send me decorative cards and letters. Please (: )

On a circular coffee table I placed one of the many photography books I received from some very wonderful people this past Christmas. On top of that sits my little butter dish that I also received from a very wonderful person this past Christmas (Thanks, Terri!). I've turned it into a fun game that whenever anyone looks under it there will be something new. If you take that item out you have to put something new under it. It's a big hit so far.

My mom found some really great tablecloths at an auction and this is one that I took. I decided I liked it better when it is folded up as a runner. I should probably iron it flatter but I didn't feel like going TOO crazy.

This is what I'm MOST excited about. I've had this bare dining room wall since I've moved in and I finally decided to do something about it. The white shelf and flower vase were gifts from my friend Whitney nearly 7 years ago. The cow picture is one of my favorites. And the purple artwork to the side is a saying that I embroidered over the last 3 days. It took way more time than I thought it would but I'm super happy with how it turned out. (Here's hoping that the shelf doesn't fall to the ground. I'm not so good at securing things with a hammer and nails.)

You may not have noticed but there is also a small antique silver spoon sitting on that shelf. This was my great-grandmothers. She collected spoons and this was one of her favorites. It's the little things...
